The Education Under Attack 2026 report documented more than 8,500 attacks on education across 83 countries, a dramatic increase from previous years. Schools are increasingly occupied by armed forces, targeted by drone strikes, or damaged by explosive weapons, forcing millions of children out of classrooms. UNICEF's reporting from Ukraine reinforces this reality. With over 1,600 educational facilities damaged or destroyed since 2022, learning has continued in underground shelters, online classrooms, and temporary spaces, demonstrating that education is not merely a building, it is a source of stability, resilience, and hope.
